The Tour De Nice – Cycling challenge to educate poor children in Africa

by ACT

This summer the world’s most prestigious cycling event, the Tour de France is finishing in Nice. It is the first time since 1903 that the Tour de France has not finished in Paris.

To mark this historic occasion, a team of four ACT supporters, Peter Motteram, Peter’s son Toby, son-in-law Tim Oelkers and close long term friend Tim Coales, have set themselves a challenge to cycle the 1,770 miles (2,850 Km), about 140 hours journey from Peter’s home in West Sussex, England to Nice.

They are embarking on this epic journey to raise funds for African Child Trust (ACT), a charity close to their hearts. Peter was one of the first trustees of ACT when it was formed 25 years ago, with the vision to educate disadvantaged children and orphans who otherwise could not afford the cost of education, due to poverty. ACT supports each child all through their education cycle up to tertiary level, so that they can reach their potential in life.

African Child Trust (ACT)

Since its formation ACT has supported nearly 7,000 children in 8 African countries.

Many of the children have advanced their education and are currently in tertiary education or have graduated with a university degree or diploma. You can read more here.

Making a difference

The team of 4 (Peter, Toby, Tim and Tim) are embarking on this challenge to make a difference. They are giving of themselves, their time and resources to help the less privileged and perhaps some of the people most in need in Africa, poor fatherless children and orphans. In so doing they will bring hope not only to these children, but also to their widowed mothers and careers, typically women such as grandmothers and other relatives, and even some child led families that ACT support.

Every revolution of their bicycle wheels will bring hope to a disadvantaged fatherless child or orphans in Africa, providing them with education and welfare support, healthcare, and the chance for a brighter future.

You also can make a difference

But they can’t do it alone. They need you to join them on this challenge through your encouragement and support to fuel their mission and make a meaningful difference in the lives of these young ones.

By donating to our cause, you’re not just sponsoring a bike ride; you’re investing in the potential of countless disadvantaged African children, empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and reach for their dreams.

Join them on this incredible journey, whether through a donation or by spreading the word. Together, let’s turn miles into smiles and pedal towards a better tomorrow for Africa’s children. Your generosity can change lives. Together, we can make a difference. Thank you for your support! Click to DONATE.
