ACT Golf Day and Dinner Event 2021

by ACT

Thursday 9 September was the 2021 Annual Golf Day and dinner which took place at the Surrey Downs Golf Club. It was our first fundraising event in two years, since the Covid-19 pandemic that put the nation in a lockdown.

It was lovely finally to meet up again with our supporters and to make new friends over a game of golf and dinner, whilst raising much needed funds for our work to support disadvantaged children and women-led households in need in Africa. The Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown led to cancellation of all our events and the loss of about 12 percent of income normally generated from event fundraising.

Being the first since the lockdown was lifted, the number of golfers participating was well down from the 30-40 players we usually attract. However, this was made up at the fundraising dinner, with many more non-golfers in attendance.

Dinner was a celebration of speeches, a raffle draw, auction and prize giving. The event raised an amazing £5,000 for our projects across the 8 African countries where we work. This is the most we have ever raised from a golf dinner event, an amazing amount.

Also at the event, ACT received a cheque for £2000 from the Nigeria-UK Golfing Association (NUGA), presented by its president Dr William Akpala to ACT Director, Dr Kunle Onabolu. The NUGA President had nominated ACT as his charity for his presidential term. The dinner event was a lovely evening enjoyed by all.

We would like to thank everyone who supported the event; your kindness means a lot to the communities that we work with. A special thanks go to Tony Sokan, ACT supporter who organises our Golf Day and Dinner, for such a great event. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year for another successful event.
