… A Christmas message from ACT Director
How will you spend this Christmas?
Christmas 2023 will be different for many of us, but hopefully much better than the last three which were very much dictated by the Covid-19 global pandemic. We arrived in 2023 with the continuing war that Russia has been waging on Ukraine and the global economic crises that have resulted in growing inflation leading to increased cost of living, high cost of fuel and high food prices. Thankfully inflation has been coming down, at least in the UK and in the western world, and there is hope of improvement in the cost of living in 2024.
In the UK, December once again arrived with a chill, although not as severely as last year. Along with it, however came the usual colds, coughs, flu and fever. Some of our staff and volunteers have been affected and could not join us for our usual Christmas dinner. The good news is that they are all on the mend and feeling much better. I haven’t seen the Salvation Army band out on my local high street for their usual Christmas march though, but as I write we are still four more days from Christmas.
Despite all these challenges around us, Christmas is always about hope. It’s a time of celebration of the birth of a little child more than two thousand years ago in a lowly stable. Yet, He is the one who is the Saviour of the world. The Son of God, who came to show us the way to live our lives that we may enjoy life to its fullest in a way that is pleasing to God.
The incredible work of ACT is just one outcome of choosing to be guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ. It is why ACT still exist 25 years on and has continued to grow, despite all the many challenges that should have suggested otherwise.
It is why our small team of two paid staff, interns, volunteers, and Trustees in the UK, as well as our partners in the 8 African countries where we work are driven to continue and to carry on with the work to bring hope to the children and widows we support.
And you have been an important part of the work. It is through your support financially, in prayers and many other ways, that has enabled the work to continue. You are a great source of HOPE for the thousands of disadvantaged fatherless children, orphans, widows, and women that we serve and support. They are truly grateful and often ask us to pass on their thanks and appreciation.
Multiply the Smiles this Christmas.
You can make a difference in the lives of children and widows in Africa who are otherwise forgotten. As we come to the end of a difficult year for many, you can bring a smile to a child and a widow in Africa. By sponsoring a child today, you not only give a gift for Christmas, but also bring them joy and hope for a better future. Click here to sponsor a child. This Christmas, you can make a difference.
