Easter – A time for new beginnings

ACT children in Ayobo-Ipaja, Nigeria

Easter is an important time for Christians across the world. It is the time when Jesus was resurrected and brought new life to all those that believe in Him. This Easter is therefore a good time to reflect on this season of hope, promise, and rebirth, and what that means to our mission.

At ACT, we certainly believe in hope and new beginnings. Since our foundation we have helped well over 6,000 young people and 2350 women-led households to reach their potential following the tragic death of a father or husband. Support from ACT represents a chance at a new life for disadvantaged families whose opportunities have been reduced through no fault of their own.

The ACT alumni network is a powerful marker of the new beginnings that ACT support can bring to children in the eight African countries where we work. On completion of their education, many of our supported children choose to join the alumni network as it helps to foster personal and professional connections among themselves and assisting each other with their career development. Many also volunteer to help by sharing their skills and wisdom with younger generations as mentors. In this way it continues the cycle of hope we aim to create.

The speakers at the March Orphan’s Support Meeting

Three such alumni recently held a workshop for ACT children in Ipaja, Nigeria. Salimat, Anjola and Ganiyat spoke at length about how the children could create opportunities for themselves through developing skills like coding, content writing and marketing. They inspired the orphans about the importance of education. Hearing first-hand stories from alumni like this is vital in giving the children hope that they too can overcome the challenges they are facing and seek a new beginning.

ACT supporter Ronke Joseph has shared with us what Easter means to her and why giving is so poignant at this time…

“Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice by giving His life for the world. Mary, his mother also made a huge sacrifice by accepting her son’s mission that led him to the cross. Please reflect on what you also can sacrifice for a child to have the opportunity of an education, so they can achieve their potential in life”

This Easter you also can provide a new beginning for a child and help to further this cycle of hope. As you and your family enjoy your easter eggs this weekend, why not make a donation to support our mission to bring hope to more disadvantaged children?

For just £15 a month you can sponsor a child to receive an education and provide school items like uniform, shoes and a school meal each day. In this way you can help them to reach their potential in life. Please click here to sponsor a child or make a donation to ACT. Thank you.
