ACT alumnus, Mitchel Roberts from Burkina Faso got married to his sweetheart Grace Dillahunty, now Grace Roberts, on  August 14th, in Dallas, Texas, where they now reside. They are pictured above on their wedding day.

Born in Liberia, Mitchell and his sister Martina, with their mother and other relatives, fled Liberia during the civil war that ravaged the country in the early 1990s. They travelled through a number of West African countries before arriving in Burkina Faso and settling in Ouagadougou as refugees. Mitchell was 11 years old at the time. In Ouagadougou the family came to the attention of ACT through our local partner. To help him settle quickly and learn French, the language spoken in Burkina Faso, Mitchell went to live with Danny Bayasen and his family. Danny at the time was the Director of Hope Mission. ACT supported Mitchell until he completed secondary school education in Burkina Faso. His academic brilliance came to the fore when he gained a scholarship to study at Columbia International University, Columbia, South Carolina in the USA in 2011. In 2016 he obtained a BA degree in Intercultural Studies and then went on to obtain a MA degree in International Development.

Post-graduation he continued to settle well into life in the US and is currently working in health and life insurance as a broker. He told us he enjoys reading and writing, which he does a lot. He also works out in the gym. Our congratulations to Mitchell and Grace.

At ACT, we receive regular updates from our alumni who remember and appreciate the support we provided for them well into their adult lives. As a life long community, we are pleased that so many of our alumni choose to stay in touch years after they stop receiving support and are now giving back and supporting our work in their community.
