Supporting Orphans in Ngara
This year ACT is taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge to support 100 orphans and disadvantaged children (50 boys and 50 girls) in Ngara, Tanzania in 2022. This means that any donation you make fron 12:00 noon on 30th November to 12:00 noon on 7th December online from the Big Give Christmas Challenge platform will be matched and ACT will receive double!
You can make this Christmas a memorable one for 100 orphan boys and girls in need, otherwise they may not have the opportunity of an education.
Our target is to raise £6,000 from the Big Give Christmas Challenge which will be matched, so we receive £12,000. This is just less than a half of the £25,000 we need to support 100 children for a year. With £250 we will cover the total cost of a child’s school fees for the year, daily school meals, school uniforms, shoes, and other school needs. In addition, we will buy each family a livestock (goat or pig) to rear for income generation. They will be able to sell off new births which will make their livelihoods more sustainable and enable them to send their children to school rather than to work so that the family can make ends meet. A goat also produces milk that can be sold, thereby increasing family income.
ACT will register each child and their family for the Community Health Insurance fund scheme (CHF). This will cover up to 8 members of each family supported to receive free medical consultation, free treatment, and free prescriptions. For poor families in this rural part of the world, such health cover is so out of reach, it’s an impossible dream. Health cover will reduce the frequency of illness and the amount of time spent away from school and work due to ill health. As a result, families will be safer, more confident and more resilient because they will have access to the security of health insurance.
This support is needed in Ngara because it has a high number of women-led households and the highest number of AIDs orphans in Tanzania. There are also high numbers of resettled refugee women and children from wars in Burundi and Rwanda. This means many families are extremely poor and struggle to cater for the children’s basic needs like food, let alone an education. The children are expected to work as farm labourers to support their family, breeding a poverty cycle as this means they are unable to access education.
Through the Big Give Christmas challenge, we want to help break the poverty cycle for families in Ngara. Every penny of your support will be invested in the project, from building sheds to keep the livestock and buying cardigans for girls to wear to school, we are able to ensure that the community benefits in a sustainable way.
Now is the time to ACT!
Seize this opportunity to help ACT double its fundraising to support the children in Ngara. You can donate only between 12:00 noon on 30th November and 12:00 noon on 7th December on the Big Give Christmas Challenge platform to receive the matched funding. Click on this link ACT Big Give Challenge to donate.
Your donation may be the best Christmas present these children, women and their families may ever receive. Thank you.
