Celebrating 25 Years of Educating Children in Africa
The UN has dedicated January 24 each year as the International Day of Education. As the world commemorates this occasion this year, we at the African Child Trust (ACT) have an abundance of reasons to mark this important event. We at ACT recently marked our 25th anniversary, a quarter-century dedicated to transforming lives through education!

ACT was formed with a vision to uplift the most vulnerable people in rural African communities out of poverty. These are typically poor widows, fatherless children, and orphans in women-led households. Educating the vulnerable, disadvantaged, and underprivileged children in Africa has been the instrument with which we have been transforming their lives, lifting them out of poverty and bringing hope to their widowed mothers, grandmothers, aunts and other carers, including in some cases their older siblings.
Over the past 25 years, our educational programs have evolved into powerful catalysts for positive change in the lives of vulnerable women-led households and their communities. Fast forward to today, our commitment to education not only provides a promising path for these children, but also empowers women through comprehensive training in sustainable income generation.
Success stories
This week we have been celebrating just a few of the many inspiring success stories from our ACT Alumni Across our social media platforms. These are real life stories of individuals whose lives have been transformed through ACT support. You can link up to our social media pages from our website.

His journey with ACT dates back to after his father passed away when he was in senior secondary school and his mother did not have the means to continue paying his school fees. His story has been one of resilience and determination. He is set to embark on a new academic chapter when he starts his MA program at Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti later this year.

Martin, from Zambiia is another shining star. Supported by ACT for 14 years, he was in primary school when his father died and went to live with his aged grandmother who was uneducated and unemployed. He persevered through the hardship life through at him. Recently he achieved a significant milestone by earning his diploma in laboratory science and now aspires to pursue a degree program, showcasing the enduring impact of sustained educational support. Today he is able to say it was all worth it, thanks to ACT support.

Pauline from Tanzania is yet another testament to the impact of the ACT education support programme. She has been supported by ACT from primary school and recently passed the secondary school leaving exams which paved the way for her admission to study for a BSc degree in Science at University. Like many others, her journey epitomises the transformative power of education and the opportunities it can unlock.
